NOT Tx?
Why Couldn't
Texas Get It Wright?
12/4/07
I just finished watching some highlight videos of Marcus running the ball
on SCOUT.COM and afterward I read a couple of posts people had written and responded to one thusly:
"There are 2 MAIN REASONS that Marcus Wright is a winner. His 2
Parent Family and extensions are steadfastly behind him and he has a reverent heart.
In today's athelete either of these qualities are hard to find, let alone
to distinguish. In reflection perhaps the fact that Marcus comes from a 2 parent
loving family is not only the key to his humble success but it is also what is missing in the lives of all the atheletes that
also possess the types of skills he employs but are often haunted by troublesome brushes with lawlessness and making
poor personal choices off the field of play. You can take your pick of the vices I suggest and still, on a weekend night
when other players are surely out celebrating at parties Marcus is at home with his family.
This point speaks more to what is wrong
with most of us than what may be right with him.
So as we pat Marcus on the back, true props go to his parents for raising
him so WRIGHT that he knows how to handle the fame and praise his teammates that will surely develop into a fortune because
of the WAY he handles it."
That's a mouthful to swallow probably especially because it rings so loudly
around these parts lately.
It's NOT About Where's He Going As Much As Where He's
NOT Going.
I have accepted that Marcus is NOT going to be a Longhorn and instead
of crying about the University of Texas' poor vision, I'm going to deal with this situation the best way I know how... I'm
going to accept it, hope I can get some decent season tickets wherever he plays and watch THAT team become
champions.
