Season total: 121 carries, 910 yds, 7 TD (6-4 overall, 5-3 district), also 2 catches for 37 yds
Your 2006 Reagan Rattlers
were picked 7th in nine-team district 26-5A, and as such garnered little attention before the season. A 1-3 start kept Your Rattlers under the radar. During this
time, the offensive line bore a lot of criticism, and the coaching staff made a switch at QB to a sophomore DB who wasn’t
on the QB depth chart to begin the season.
All this time, junior running
back Marcus Wright quietly carried the freight for the Rattler offense, grinding out his yards the hard way.
Then… the offensive
line gelled… the shifty sophomore QB made plays on 3rd downs and kept defenses honest… the senior wide
receivers became perhaps the best blocking trio of receivers in South Texas… and the production of the Rattler Offense exploded.
As the yardage and wins
over the best football programs in the San Antonio area mounted,
so did the spotlight shine brighter on Wright. It speaks volumes to his upbringing
by his mother "Queen" (LaShaun) and now retired from the Army father Michael that Marcus has remained what he has always been: quiet, humble, deflecting praise to his teammates and coaches. All of that praise, to Marcus and his teammates and his coaches, is well-deserved.
One only need look at this
past Thursday’s article in the San Antonio Express News, “Guts behind the glory” (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/hssports/football/stories/MYSA120706.03C.FBHreagan.offense.23f1be5.html). The story epitomized
the team-first ethic embraced by head Coach David Wetzel and his staff, and ingrained in Your Rattlers.
Athletes in the spotlight
at all levels, high school, college, and pro, are today prone to beat their chest and scream “Look at how unstoppable
I am!!” to all who have a camera and/or a notepad.
Not at Reagan.
So, thanks goes to Coach
Brad Harris’s offensive line: seniors Steve Wallace, Wes Alvey, Taylor Cotton, Matt Holloway, Pat Holloway, and Tim
Kudla, juniors Pat Martinez and Sean Emadi. Thanks also goes to Coach Chans Chapman’s
receivers: seniors Travis Tatsch, Matt Smith (former starting QB), and Mitch Rocheleau, as well as Coach Matt Carroll’s
charges: sophomore QB Derrick Walls and the lead blocking of junior fullback Nathan Dawson.
Thanks goes to Head Coach David Wetzel and his staff’s scouting, scheming, and ability to implement a game plan
during the week and push the right buttons during the heat of ballgames.
All that said… Marcus
Wright has taken his God-given physical gifts and through dedicated hard work and competitive fire has developed them further
into something that is truly special. Few players in the state of Texas can do what he has done.

from TE Steve Wallace on the “hitch & pitch” play at the Reagan 41 and scored.
Wallace got 1 pass reception, and credit for the receiving yards up to where Wright caught the pitch. Wright gets no pass reception, but gets credit for 59 receiving yards plus the TD. QB Walls gets credit for a pass completion and passing TD.
